About the Walks
Welcome to the UMDF Energy for Life Walkathon! We appreciate this opportunity to introduce you to our organization and our mission.
Energy for Life Walkathons are designed to be family-friendly events. The routes are designed to be one and three miles in length and are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Everyone can participate!
The Energy for Life Walkathon model uses a “pledge based” fundraising strategy. This strategy is successful because it allows affected individuals, their family and friends to build a team and walk to raise awareness. It allows participants, especially those who have never heard of mitochondrial disease, to learn about the disease from those who are directly affected.
We have done our best to make it easy for you to plan a successful walk and start signing up participants. On this website, you will find the tools you will need to make sure that your Energy for Life Walkathon is just as successful as the others held across the United States.
We want you to succeed because the Energy for Life Walkathons not only raise awareness, but it helps provide the funding for research projects, patient and family support and provides education and information to families. For every dollar raised, .94 cents goes towards these efforts– on the local and national level.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in our Energy for Life Walkathon. You can help us make a difference in the lives of those affected by mitochondrial disease.
